can some on help me with my high idle problem?
i have a 1979 Lincoln mark v, with a 400 engine and 2 barrel holly Carburetor that was recently rebuilt.
my problem is with high idle speed and i dont want to take it back to a mechanic, how can i fix or adjust my vehicles components to reduce idle speed
Thanks people
I am not a lincoln mechanic, and the other 2 previous answers sounded good; but will give this a shot; at the end of the throttle lever is a stop with a an adjustment, screw it in a few treads till idle slows down, ... or you may need to adjust idle/air mixture screw 1/2 turn on carburetor, and possibly adjust timing down also, if the idle is not steady then you have a vacuum leak. (often a small vacuum leak will make idle run higher.
Carburetors can be finicky when seasons change or when humidity or barometric pressure changes, that is why cars now use fuel injection with sensors that the car computer compensates for.
Look online at some of the lincoln forums, you may find perfect answer.
if possible; I suggest getting a smaller car to save gas.
